Keynote: Scenes of Love, Solidarity, Slowness, and Presences for Futures

Tuesday, November 12 | 9am

Featuring Amanda Tachine and Z Nicolazzo

Over the span of almost two decades of friendship and professional co-conspirators, Amanda and Z strive to live and practice in forms of liberatory world building. From desiring worlds otherwise to those where Native students face systemic monsters (Tachine, 2022) to those through which trans students embrace kinship networks as a strategy of resilience against institutional transphobia (Nicolazzo, 2017), Amanda and Z have co-sought, co-created, and co-demanded better for and through educational spaces.

In this shared keynote, Amanda and Z evoke scenes of ongoing in-relations practice of seeking what bell hooks (1994) called education as “a practice of freedom.”

Scenes weave themes of an ethic of love, solidarity, slowness, and presences with each other and the world. Amanda and Z will be alongside members of the POD Network to vision possible futures for teaching, learning, and education otherwise.

GPPD (Graduate, Professional, and Postdoctoral Scholar Development) SIG Networking Lunch

On Tuesday, November 12 the Graduate Student, Professional Student and Postdoctoral Scholar Special Interest Group (GPPD SIG) will host a networking lunch for graduate students and postdocs. The goals of the lunch are to connect graduate students and postdocs interested in teaching; to create opportunities for professional networking between future faculty developers and current faculty developers; and to create connections across institutional contexts. You will be able to sign up for the lunch when you register for the conference.

This lunch is open to graduate students, professional students, postdoctoral scholars, and educational developers working with these groups.

The agenda is as follows:

12:15-12:20: Welcome remarks by GPPD representatives and POD President, Christine Rener.

12:20-1:00: Lightly structured conversations at tables.

1:00-2:00: Focused table discussions on various topics, including teaching certificate programs, semester-long program support, international graduate student support, networking for sole full-time staff members supporting graduate students, and networking among graduate, professional, and postdoctoral scholars. Participants can move between tables based on their interests.

We encourage attendees with multiple commitments to join or leave at a convenient time.
