The Professional and Organizational Development (POD) Network in Higher Education has sponsored the Institute for New Educational Developers (INED) for the past twenty-five years to mentor new practitioners and facilitate excellence in practice among its members. The primary audience is persons in the early years of educational development roles. Participants receive support from seasoned educational developers, have the opportunity to network with colleagues, create mentoring relationships with dedicated practitioners, and reflect on their own critical practice. Tracks include the field of educational development, program curriculum, and pedagogy.

INED 2021

Collaboration with campus partners, established developers, mentors, and colleagues is critical to the success of new educational developers, especially in a time of pandemic and renewed calls for social justice and equity in higher education. This virtual institute connected participants with colleagues, sparked ideas for equitable and inclusive educational development, and introduced them to the skills and practices needed to succeed.

INED 2021 featured:

  • Access to pre-event support, materials, and community through our virtual institute platform;
  • Synchronous workshops and keynote speeches by innovative, established, and passionate educational developers from across the country;
  • Asynchronous “nuts-and-bolts” mini-workshops on how to establish and develop your teaching and learning program or center;
  • Collaboration and networking time with other new educational developers;
  • Mentoring and support from our amazing facilitator team;
  • Workshop materials, an INED Welcome Pack, prizes and giveaways, and much, much more!

INFD 2019

The 2019 INFD took place July 29–August 2, 2019 at the UNCG campus with hotel accommodations at the Marriott Greensboro Downtown.

The time is now to look at our inclusive future. The 2019 INFD encompasses the history of the field of educational development in higher education with a focus on our inclusive future. Participants will attend sessions on Emerging Inclusive Practice, Emerging Technology, Emerging Best Practices, and “How To” for practical application. Each session is geared at building skills in educational development from consulting to event planning and beyond.

Participants will develop a program action plan with the support of seasoned educational developers, have the opportunity to network with colleagues, create mentoring relationships with dedicated practitioners, and reflect on their own critical practice.

The event ends with a reception at the International Civil Rights Museum, home of the first Woolworth Sit-ins.
