________________________________________________________________________

The POD Network has sponsored the INED over more than two decades to mentor new practitioners and facilitate excellence in practice among its members. For most of its history, the institute was held in person every other year over three to five days. Events of the last five years have led the INED into new modalities: state travel bans prompted the addition of remote access options to the in-person Institute 2019, and the pandemic caused the 2020 Institute to be postponed and then redesigned for online delivery in 2021. To reach the broadest range of educational developers, the INED is now offered annually, alternating modality: in person in odd years and fully online in even years. The 2025 INED is to take place in person.

As a signature program for the POD Network, the INED should reflect the organization’s mission and its values of collaboration, equity, and evidence. Hosts are entrusted to assemble, through an open call, a diverse group of educational developers to serve as INED faculty and enact these values. Hosts are charged with constructing a curriculum informed by the Educational Developer Competency Framework tool developed by the Professional Development Committee (PDC) to achieve the INED learning outcomes.
